The Braylon Edwards trade isn’t looking too bad for the Cleveland Browns now

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Saturday 19 December 2009 at 12:04 pm

At first glance the trade of Braylon Edwards to the Jets seemed to favor them quite a bit.  But, Edwards is having the same types of problems with the Jets (dropping balls) that he had with the Browns.  Edwards has played in 9 games for the Jets now and he has caught 26 passes for 403 yards (15.5 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Chansi Stuckey got off to a slow start for the Browns due to injury but he has been solid when healthy.  He has played in 8 games for the Browns so far this season and he has caught 13 passes for 154 yards (11.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He has also carried the ball 2 times for 6 yards (3.0 ypc).  He projects to be a solid #3 WR for the Browns next season and the rest of this year.  25-year old linebacker Jason Trusnik has been a huge surprise for the Browns since coming over from the Jets.  Initially Trusnik was only supposed to play on special teams but he is now starting due to a rash of injuries in the Browns’ linebacker unit.  He has played in 9 games for the Browns this season and he has 41 tackles and 2 sacks.  The Browns not only got Stuckey and Trusnik for Edwards but they also got a third and fifth round pick in next April’s Draft which will make this trade look even better for them if they pick the right players.

The Cleveland Browns trade Braylon Edwards to the Jets

The Browns have traded 26-year old WR Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets for 26-year old WR Chansi Stuckey, LB Jason Trusnick and two undisclosed draft picks.  Edwards pretty much stamped his ticket out of town when he punched one of LeBron James friends at a night club over the weekend.  He never really found a home in Cleveland as every time he dropped a football the fans started barking about how he was from Michigan.  Edwards played in all 4 games for the Browns this season and he caught 10 passes for 139 yards (13.9 avg).  He played for the Browns for five years in which he played in 62 games and he caught 238 passes for 3,697 yards (15.5 avg) with 28 TD grabs.  It will be interesting to see how Edwards plays for the Jets as he is in his free agent walk year.

26-year old WR Chansi Stuckey will step in as Edwards’ replacement this season.  He played in all 4 games for the Jets this season and he caught 11 passes for 120 yards (10.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He has played two years with the Jets appearing in 19 games in which he has caught 43 passes for 479 yards (11.1 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  Linebacker Jason Trusnick is a special teams ace which will strengthen the best part of the Browns’ team.  He played in all 4 games for the Jets this season and he made 6 tackles and forced a fumble.  Trusnick played three years for the Jets playing in 17 games and making 24 tackles and forcing a fumble.  The two draft picks better be good ones because Stuckey and Trusnick are nowhere near worth what Edwards is.

UPDATE:  The draft picks the Browns have received are a 3rd rounder (which could escalate to a 2nd rounder based on Edwards’ performance for the Jets) and a 5th rounder.

The Cleveland Browns trade DT Louis Leonard

Blogged under Big Browns News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Wednesday 2 September 2009 at 8:59 am

The Browns have traded 25-year old DT Louis Leonard to the Carolina Panthers for a undisclosed draft pick.  Leonard played in all 16 games for the Browns last season and he made 25 tackles.  No matter what round the draft pick is in I think this was a good trade for the Browns as Leonard’s upside is very, very limited.

The Cleveland Browns trade down three times in the first round

Blogged under Big Browns News,Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report,Trades by admin on Saturday 25 April 2009 at 6:47 pm

The Cleveland Browns’ day started off with a trade with the Jets.  The Browns traded the #5 pick in the first round of the draft and got back the #17 pick in the first round, the #52 overall pick (2nd round), DE Kenyon Coleman, safety Abram Elam and QB Brett Ratliff.  30-year old Kenyon Coleman will be in the mix at defensive end for the Browns.  The 6’5″, 295 pound Coleman played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and he made 53 tackles, defensed 1 pass and had 1/2 a sack.  Coleman has now played in 89 games in his NFL career and he has made 205 tackles, defensed 3 passes, has 8.5 sacks and he has forced 1 fumble.  27-year old strong safety Abram Elam will replace the departed Sean Jones in the starting lineup.  The 6’0″, 207 pound Elam played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and he made 69 tackles, defensed 3 passes, had 2 sacks, forced 3 fumbles and he intercepted a pass that he returned 92 yards for a TD.  Elam has now played in 44 games in his NFL career and he has made 135 tackles, defensed 5 passes, has 2 sacks, forced 4 fumbles and he has 1 interception.  23-year old QB Brett Ratliff is a favorite of head coach Eric Mangini.  The 6’4″, 235 pound Ratliff has never played in a regular season game in his NFL career.  He was a standout last pre-season for the Jets.  He completed 32 of 47 passes (68.1%) for 499 yards with 4 TD passes and 1 interception (122.6 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 3 times for 9 yards (3.0 ypc).  It will be interesting to see if Ratliff’s arrival pushes Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson out of town.

The Browns then traded down from #17 to #19 in the first round with the Bucs so that they could draft QB Josh Freeman.  The Browns also picked up the #191 pick overall (6th round) from the Bucs.  The Browns then traded the #19 pick of the first round to the Eagles who selected WR/KR Jeremy Maclin.  The Browns received the #21 pick of the first round which turned out to be center Alex Mack and they also got the Eagles’ 6th round pick (#195 overall).  These were good moves for the Browns who needed to add a few players for 2009.

The Cleveland Browns trade Kellen Winslow to the Bucs

Blogged under Big Browns News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Friday 27 February 2009 at 6:40 pm

The Cleveland Browns have traded 25-year old TE Kellen Winslow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2nd round pick in the 2009 draft and a 5th rounder in 2010.  Winslow played in 10 games for the Browns last season and he caught 43 passes for 428 yards (10.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He finished his career with the Browns playing in 44 games in which he caught 219 passes for 2,459 yards (11.2 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  The Browns apparently didn’t like the baggage that goes with Kellen Winslow.  Still, the Browns made another hole on the offense trading away the player with the best set of hands on the roster.  The Browns did need the draft picks but they might regret trading Winslow down the road.

The Cleveland Browns acquire CB Travis Daniels from the Dolphins

Blogged under Big Browns News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Thursday 21 August 2008 at 7:48 pm

The Browns have acquired CB Travis Daniels from the Miami Dolphins for a late round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.  The 25-year old Daniels will likely be the nickel back for the Browns in 2008.  He played in all 16 games (5 starts) for the Dolphins last season and he made 28 tackles, defensed 4 passes and he had 1 interception.  Daniels has a nice upside so this was a solid move for the Browns who continue to play for right here and now as they keep moving future draft choices for veteran players.  Daniels has now played in 44 games (25 starts) in his NFL career and he has made 125 tackles, has defensed 18 passes and he has 3 career interceptions.  The Browns really need help in the secondary so this was a good move for them.

The Cleveland Browns acquire DT Shaun Rogers from the Lions

Blogged under Big Browns News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Saturday 1 March 2008 at 8:45 am

The Cleveland Browns have acquired NT Shaun Rogers from the Lions for CB Leigh Bodden and a 3rd round pick in 2008.  Rogers is a 6’4″, 340 pound beast for the middle of the Browns Defense.  Rogers played in 16 games for the Lions last season and he made 39 tackles, had 7 sacks, defensed 3 passes and intercepted a pass that he returned an amazing 66 yards for a TD.  Rogers has now played in 98 games in his NFL career and he has made 272 tackles, has 29 sacks, defensed 21 passes, forced 4 fumbles and he has an interception.  Rogers was an outstanding addition to the Browns Defense as he will demand a double team and free up the inside linebackers to make plays in the running game.  He also will collapse the pocket up the middle at times which will put the opposing QB at risk.

Leigh Bodden has really made himself into a player in Cleveland after making the team as an undrafted free agent.  He played in 16 games last season for the Browns and he made 88 tackles, defensed 15 passes and had 6 interceptions.  Bodden has now played in 59 games in his NFL career and he has made 221 tackles, defensed 48 passes, forced 4 fumbles and intercepted 12 passes.  He will be missed but the Browns needed to make this move to improve the run defense.  Throwing in a third round pick in this deal means that the Browns will not pick until the 4th round in next months NFL Draft.
