The light has finally went on for Brian Robiskie of the Cleveland Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 1 January 2011 at 8:06 pm

23-year old WR Brian Robiskie has finally woke up the last couple of weeks.  In Robiskie’s last two games he has caught 7 passes for 117 yards (16.7 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He has now played in 13 games this year for the Browns and he has caught 27 passes for 275 yards (10.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Robiskie has played in 24 games in his first two years with the Browns and he has caught 34 passes for 381 yards (11.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  It is nice to see Robiskie finishing the year strongly as he might actually be a bigger part of the Browns down the road than I thought he was going to be.

Jake Delhomme has played decent the last couple of weeks for the Cleveland Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 9 December 2010 at 4:19 pm

35-year old QB Jake Delhomme has stepped in the last couple of weeks for rookie Colt McCoy and he has done a decent job.  The Browns have won both of the last two games under Delhomme, scoring 37 combined points.  Delhomme has completed 48 of 69 passes (69.6%) for 462 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs during the last two weeks.  He has now played in 4 games this year for the Browns and he has completed 81 of 129 passes (62.8%) for 786 yards with 2 TD passes and 6 INTs (65.6 QB Rating).  Delhomme hasn’t played well enough though to keep Colt McCoy on the bench when he’s ready to return to action.

Two rookies are really making their mark in the Cleveland Browns’ secondary

Safety T.J. Ward (2nd round out of Oregon) and CB Joe Haden (1st round pick out of Florida) have really added a lot of talent to the Browns’ secondary this year.  Ward is a intimidating hitter who has made his mark as a lot of WRs don’t like to go over the middle against the Browns.  Ward has played in 11 games for the Browns so far this year and he has 87 tackles (leads the Browns), 2 tackles for a loss, 7 passes defensed, 2 interception and a forced fumble.  Joe Haden has finally gotten into the starting lineup in Eric Wright’s place.  Haden has played in 11 games for the Browns so far this year and he has 40 tackles, 11 passes defensed and 4 interceptions which he has returned a combined 101 yards.  Haden also had 4 kickoff returns for 96 yards (24.0 avg) so far this year.  Ward & Haden have also been standouts on special teams coverage units this year.  They appear to have been outstanding picks for the Cleveland Browns last April.

Peyton Hillis has been outstanding for the Cleveland Browns

24-year old RB Peyton Hillis has been outstanding for the Cleveland Browns this year.  The Browns acquired Peyton Hillis and two late round draft picks during the off-season from the Broncos for QB Brady Quinn.  That trade looks like highway robbery for the Browns.  Hillis has played in 11 games for the Browns so far this year and he has carried the ball 199 times for 905 yards (#9 in the NFL) (4.5 ypc) with 11 TD runs (2nd in the NFL.  Hillis has also caught 46 passes for 414 yards (9.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far this year.  The 6’1″, 240 pound Hillis always sets the tone for the Browns’ offense as he is a throwback who really reminds me of John Riggins.

It looks as if the Cleveland Browns have found themselves a QB

Browns’ president really wanted to draft Colt McCoy, but his GM kept passing him up before relenting near the end of the third round.  McCoy has led the Browns to a 2-2 record against the Steelers, Patriots, Saints and Jets while they have been averaging 23.5 points per game which is pretty darn impressive.  McCoy has started 4 games for the Browns this year and he has completed 64 of 99 passes (64.6%) for 734 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs (85.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 16 times for 48 yards (3.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  McCoy has been buying time in the pocket with his feet while looking down the field and the result has been some huge plays.  The Browns start playing some soft defenses the rest of the year so McCoy might just put up some real big numbers to go along with some wins.

The Cleveland Browns are using the TEs a lot in the passing game this year

29-year old Ben Watson and 25-year old Evan Moore have been solid for the Browns this year.  I think they should even use them more in the passing game as they are both big targets with good hands.  Watson has played in all 8 games for the Browns this year and he has caught 31 passes for 360 yards (11.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He is looking to set new career highs this year for the Browns.  His career highs are 49 catches, 643 yards and 6 TD grabs.  Evan Moore was on the practice squad most of last season.  He has played in 5 games for the Browns so far this year and he has 10 catches for 219 yards (21.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Browns need to get Moore on the field more even if it means playing more double tight sets.

Peyton Hillis has been outstanding this year for the Cleveland Browns

24-year old RB Peyton Hillis has been outstanding for the Cleveland Browns this year.  The 6’1″, 240 pound power running back has played in all 8 games for the Browns this year in which he has carried the ball 133 times for 644 yards (4.8 ypc) with 7 TD runs.  He has also caught 30 passes for 229 yards (7.6 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  I love Hillis’ running style as he would rather run over you than around you reminding me quite a bit of John Riggins who used to play for the Redskins.  Here’s to hoping he stays healthy the rest of the year.

David Bowens’ big game came virtually out of nowhere for the Cleveland Browns last weekend

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 29 October 2010 at 1:07 pm

33-year old linebacker David Bowens was the star of the game for the Browns last weekend when he returned two interceptions off Drew Brees a combined 94 yards and they both went for TDs.  Bowens has now played in 6 games for the Browns this year and he has 3 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 2 INTs.  Bowens came over as one of Mangini’s boys from the Jets.  Bowens has now played in 22 games in his career with the Browns (2 years) and he has 74 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 5.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions.  Bowens only had 1 interception in his first 10 years in the NFL so last week’s game was probably the best of his entire NFL career.

Ahtyba Rubin is playing well for the Cleveland Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 29 October 2010 at 12:58 pm

24-year old NT Ahtyba Rubin has taken over as the starter from veteran Shaun Rogers.  Rubin has played in all 7 games for the Browns this year and he has 33 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Rubin has helped the Browns’ run defense as they are giving up 111.3 yards rushing per game but only 3.9 yards per carry which is much better than last season.  31-year old Shaun Rogers has played in 6 games for the Browns this year but he only has five tackles so far.

T.J. Ward is the enforcer of the Cleveland Browns’ D and special teams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 21 October 2010 at 1:20 pm

When the Browns picked 23-year old free safety T.J. Ward in the second round all of the draft “experts” said that the Browns were reaching.  Well it appears that the draftniks are wrong once again as T.J. Ward is a animal.  Ward has played in all six games for the Browns so far this year and he has 54 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 forced fumble and he has blocked a field goal.  Ward got fined for a nasty hit on Jordan Shipley of the Bengals earlier this year.  He has sent the message that you aren’t safe as long as he is on the field and that helps the Browns’ D.  Ward blasted Rashard Mendenhall so hard on a play near the end of the game last week that Mendenhall didn’t even remember playing that day!  Ward was an excellent pick for the Browns last April.
