The Cleveland Browns were down 17-3 at the half before waking up and playing much better in the second half, but it was way too little, too late.  Colt McCoy completed 22 of 34 passes for 241 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 8 times for 30 yards (3.8 ypc) for the Browns in this game.  But, he had butter fingers as he fumbled four times.  He only lost one of them, but it was on the Browns’ first offensive possession and it set up a Niners’ TD.  Montario Hardesty didn’t last long as he carried the ball 2 times for 6 yards (3.0 ypc), before leaving the game with a calf injury.  Chris Ogbonnaya led the way for the Browns on the ground in this game with 37 yards rushing on 11 carries (3.4 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 24 yards (4.8 avg).  TE Ben Watson (3 rec, 64 yards) and WR Josh Cribbs (2 rec, 56 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Browns yesterday.  WRs Jordan Norwood (5 rec, 32 yards) and Greg Little (4 rec, 28 yards) also helped out.  The Browns finished up with 66 yards rushing on 23 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 34 passes (64.7%) for 224 yards as they had possession of the ball for 27:07.

The defense was awful in the first half, but pretty darn solid in the second half for the Browns.  LB D’Qwell Jackson had 10 tackles and 5 tackles for a loss to lead the way for the Browns’ on D yesterday.  DT Ahtyba Rubin (8 tackles) and safety Mike Adams (7 tackles) also pitched in for the Browns in this game.  The Niners finished up with 174 yards rushing on 39 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 24 passes (62.5%) for 174 yards in this game.  The Browns are now 3-4 on the season.

Cleveland Browns 6, Seattle Seahawks 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 24 October 2011 at 12:55 pm

The Browns won this game because of an outstanding effort from the D and because of Phil Dawson’s leg.  Dawson had two field goals blocked in this game, but he also nailed a 52-yarder and a 53-yarder.  Safety T.J. Ward led the way for the Browns on D with 6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and a forced fumble.  CB Joe Haden (5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed), LB D’Qwell Jackson (5 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) and DT Ahtyba Rubin (5 tackles, 1/2 a sack and 1 QB hit) also had outstanding games against the Seahawks.  LB Chris Gocong (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 2 QB hits), DE Jabaal Sheard (3 tackles, 1/2 a sack and 1 QB hit) and CB Sheldon Brown (interception) also made some big plays for the Browns in this game.  The Seahawks finished up with 65 yards rushing on 17 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 30 passes (40%) for 72 yards!

Colt McCoy had another sub-par game for the Browns yesterday as he completed 20 of 35 passes for 178 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 8 times for 31 yards (3.9 ypc) yesterday.  Montario Hardesty led the way on the ground for the Browns in this game with 33 carries for 95 yards (2.9 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 27 yards (13.5 avg) in this game.  Chris Ogbonnaya looked solid in his debut with the Browns as he carried the ball 3 times for 15 yards (5.0 ypc).  He also caught 5 passes for 43 yards (8.6 avg) in this game.  TE Evan Moore (4 rec, 35 yards) and WR Greg Little (5 rec, 31 yards) led the way for the Browns in the passing game.  The Browns finished up with 141 yards rushing on 44 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 35 passes (57.1%) for 157 yards as they had possession of the ball for an amazing 42:56!  The Browns are now 3-3 on the year.

Oakland Raiders 24, Cleveland Browns 17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 17 October 2011 at 2:35 am

Two plays on special teams essentially broke the Browns’ backs in this game.  One was a 101-yard TD return on a kickoff by Raiders’ Jacoby Ford, one play after the Browns tied the game at 7 apiece.  Raiders punter Shane Lechler completed a 35-yard TD pass to TE Kevin Boss on a fake field goal!  The special teams really hurt the Browns’ today but the offense didn’t help the cause much either.  Colt McCoy was very inaccurate today as he completed 21 of 45 passes for 215 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 16 yards (4.0 ypc) and he lost a fumble.  Peyton Hillis only carried the ball 6 times for 14 yards (2.3 ypc) as he tweaked his hamstring early in today’s game.  Montario Hardesty led the way for the Browns on the ground in this game with 35 yards rushing on 11 carries (3.2 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 18 yards (9.0 avg) in this game.  Rookie WR Greg Little led the way for the Browns in this game with 6 grabs for 72 yards (12.0 avg).  TE Ben Watson (3 rec, 35 yards), WR Mohamed Massaquoi (3 rec, 30 yards, TD) and TE Alex Smith (2 rec, 14 yards, TD) also pitched in for the Browns in the passing game today.  The Browns finished up with 65 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 45 passes (46.7%) for 203 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 25:19.

The defense was on the field for a long time today and they didn’t look that bad despite the final score.  LB D’Qwell Jackson (9 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss), safety T.J. Ward (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and CB Dimitri Patterson (7 tackles and 1 pass defensed) led the way for the Browns in this game on D.  The Raiders finished up with 151 yards on 40 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 24 passes (62.5%) for 178 yards.  The Browns are now 2-3 on the season.

Tennessee Titans 31, Cleveland Browns 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Sunday 2 October 2011 at 11:24 pm

The Browns looked like they were interested in playing today, so the Titans destroyed them!  Colt McCoy completed 40 of 61 passes (66.6%) for 350 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  His interception was a horrible pass that was returned 97 yards for a TD by Titans’ safety Jordan Babineaux.  Most of McCoy’s numbers were on dinks and dunks as he very rarely through the ball more than 10 yards down the field in this game.  McCoy also carried the ball 4 times for 16 yards (4.0 ypc) in this game.  Peyton Hillis returned to action and he carried the ball 10 times for 46 yards (4.6 ypc).  He also caught 5 passes for 23 yards (4.6 avg) for the Browns today.  Montario Hardesty pitched in with 22 yards rushing on 7 carries (3.1 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 49 yards (9.8 avg) today.  WR Greg Little (6 rec, 57 yards), WR Josh Cribbs (5 rec, 50 yards), TE Ben Watson (6 rec, 48 yards, TD) and WR Mohamed Massaquoi (6 rec, 46 yards) led the way for the Browns in the passing game.  The Browns finished up with 84 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 40 of 61 passes (66.6%) for 332 yards as they had possession of the ball for 36:53.

The defense played pretty well against the running game but not so good against the pass.  LBs D’Qwell Jackson (10 tackles) and Scott Fujita (9 tackles) led the way for the Browns on D today.  Rookie DE Jabaal Sheard pitched in with 5 tackles today.  The Titans rushed for 112 yards on 29 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 10 of 21 passes (47.6%) for 220 yards.  The numbers don’t tell the whole story in this game as the Browns really got their butts kicked today by the Titans.  The Browns are now 2-2 on the year.

Cleveland Browns 17, Miami Dolphins 16

The defense played outstanding football most of the game yesterday for the Browns, while the offense didn’t really wake up until their last drive of the game when Colt McCoy hit Mohamed Massaquoi with a beautiful 14-yard TD pass in the corner of the end zone to give the Browns a 17-16 lead with only 43 seconds left in the game.  The defense then made that lead stand up.  Colt McCoy completed 19 of 39 passes for 210 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT in this game.  Montario Hardesty got the start at RB as Peyton Hillis missed this game with strep throat.  He carried the ball 14 times for 67 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg).  TE Ben Watson led the way in the passing game for the Browns yesterday with 5 grabs for 64 yards (12.8 avg).  WRs Josh Cribbs (3 rec, 49 yards, TD), Mohamed Massquoi (2 rec, 26 yards, TD) and Greg Little (3 rec, 24 yards) also had solid games for the Fins yesterday.  The Browns rushed for 70 yards on 19 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 39 passes (48.7%) for 210 yards as they had possession of the ball for 22:09.

The defense played excellent football for the Browns yesterday, especially up front.  LB D’Qwell Jackson led the way for the Browns’ D once again with 11 tackles, 1/2 a sack, 1 QB hit and a fumble recovery.  DTs Ahtyba Rubin (9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1.5 sacks and 2 QB hits) and Phil Taylor (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) really helped the Browns control the middle of the field.  DE Jayme Mitchell also had a big game for the Browns yesterday with 4 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 2 QB hits.  Safety Michael Adams intercepted the last pass that Dolphins’ QB Chad Henne threw yesteday, which sealed the Browns’ victory.  The Dolphins rushed for 138 yards on 38 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 29 passes (65.5%) for 231 yards.  The Browns are now a surprising 2-1 to start the 2011 season.

Cleveland Browns 27, Indianapolis Colts 19

The Cleveland Browns played a solid game in all three phases (offense, defense and special teams) which led them to a nice road win in Indianapolis yesterday.  Colt McCoy was pretty efficient yesterday as he completed 22 of 32 passes for 211 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 10 yards (3.3 ypc) in this game.  Peyton Hillis was a workhorse in this game as he carried the ball 27 times for 94 yards (3.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 4 passes for 23 yards (5.8 avg).  McCoy spread the ball around and that was part of the reason he was so effective.  Mohamed Massaquoi led the way in the passing game for the Browns with 3 grabs for 45 yards.  Josh Cribbs had an outstanding all-around game for the Browns yesterday as he caught 3 passes for 41 yards (13.7 avg).  Cribbs also returned 2 kickoffs for 80 yards (40.0 avg) and 2 punts for 52 yards (26.0 avg) as he helped get the offense a lot of good starting position.  WR Greg Little (4 rec, 38 yards) and TE Evan Moore (1 rec, 16 yards, TD) also had solid game for the Browns.  The Browns finished up with 106 yards rushing on 34 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 32 passes (68.8%) for 197 yards as they had possession of the ball for 34:34.

The defense played a great game as they held the Colts to field goals until a late game garbage TD.  LB D’Qwell Jackson led the way for the Browns’ D again yesterday with 8 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  DE Jabal Sheard (5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 QB hit, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery), DT Phil Taylor (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and DT Ahtyba Rubin (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 2 passes defensed)  helped the Browns control the line of scrimmage against the Colts in this game.  CB Joe Haden (5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss),  LB Scott Fujita (5 tackles) and safety Usama Young (3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception which he returned 28 yards) also had solid games for the Browns on D.  The Colts finished up with 109 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 38 passes (50%) for 176 yards.  The Browns are now 1-1 on the year.

Cincinnati Bengals 27, Cleveland Browns 17

The Cleveland Browns were leading this game 17-13 in the 4th quarter before deciding to sleepwalk on both sides of the ball.  The offense couldn’t move the ball at all in the 4th quarter.  But I will talk about the incredible defensive meltdown later in his post.  Colt McCoy didn’t look that great today as he completed 19 of 40 passes for 213 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT (the INT came on the Browns’ last offensive play of the game).  He also carried the ball 3 times for 11 yards (3.7 ypc) today.  Peyton Hillis had a so-so game today as he carried the ball 17 times for 57 yards (3.4 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 30 yards (5.0 avg).  Montario Hardesty did a decent job in giving Hillis a break today as he carried the ball 5 times for 18  yards (3.6 ypc).  WR Mohamed Massaquoi (3 rec, 77 yards), TE Ben Watson (3 rec, 45 yards, TD) and TE Evan Moore (3 rec, 35 yards, TD) led the way for the Browns in the passing game today.  The Browns finished up with 83 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 40 passes (47.5%) for 202 yards as they had possession of the ball for 29:37.

The Browns played great defense in this game until there was 6:19 left in the contest with the Browns leading 17-13.  Bengals’ QB Bruce Gradkowski got his offense lined up really fast on a play, the Browns came out of the huddle slowly when he had the ball snapped.  The result was a 41-yard TD lob from Gradkowski to an uncovered A.J. Green!  Amazing awful play by the Browns!  It didn’t end there though as the Bengals had a 3rd and about 3 from the Browns’ 39-yard line with just under two minutes left, when Cedric Benson ran right off tackle for a TD run to put the final nail in the coffin.  That being said, the Browns had some impressive performances on D today.  LB D’Qwell Jackson was a beast for the Browns as he led the way with 11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 2 sacks and a QB hit.  Rookie DT Phil Taylor also looked pretty solid in his NFL debut as he finished up with 6 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss.  CB Joe Haden was all over the field today with 3 tackles, 1 sack, 5 passes defensed and 1 QB hit.  The Bengals finished up with 139 yards on 33 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 27 passes (55.6%) for 155 yards in this game.  The new NFL rules for kickoffs slowed Josh Cribbs down a little bit due to touchbacks.  But, he still returned 3 kickoffs for 91 yards (30.3 avg) and 6 punts for 58 yards (9.7 avg) in this game.  The Browns start the season out with a disappointing 0-1 record.

Pittsburgh Steelers 41, Cleveland Browns 9

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 3 January 2011 at 5:32 am

The Browns came out flat in this game and the Steelers punished them from beginning to end.  Colt McCoy looked awful today as he completed 20 of 41 passes for 209 yards with 1 TD pass and 3 INTs.  McCoy also carried the ball 4 times for 19 yards (4.8 ypc) in this game.  Seneca Wallace ran a few plays at QB and he completed his only pass but it was only good for 1 yard.  Mike Bell got the start at RB today and he finished up with 14 yards rushing on 5 carries (2.8 ypc).  He also caught 4 passes for 14 yards (3.5 avg) in this game.  Peyton Hillis only carried the ball 6 times for 13 yards (2.2 ypc) and he caught 1 pass for 3 yards in a brief appearance.  TE Ben Watson led the way in the passing game for the Browns in this game with 7 grabs for 67 yards (9.6 avg).  Mohamed Massaquoi (3 rec, 50 yards), Josh Cribbs (3 rec, 37 yards) and Brian Robiskie (2 rec, 35 yards, TD) also pitched in for the Browns in the passing game today.  The Browns finished up with only 43 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.5 ypc) and they completed 21 of 43 passes for 182 yards as they only had the ball for 26:46 in this game.

CB Mike Adams (8 tackles, 1 QB hit), safety T.J. Ward (7 tackles and 1 pass defensed) and CB Joe Haden (6 tackles and 1 pass defensed) led an awful effort by the Browns’ D in this game.  The Steelers finished up with 100 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 30 passes for 318 yards.  The Browns finished the 2010 season in third place in the AFC North with a 5-11 record.

Baltimore Ravens 20, Cleveland Browns 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 27 December 2010 at 2:14 pm

The Browns just couldn’t get much going offensively against the Ravens yesterday and it killed them in this game.  Rookie QB Colt McCoy had a dud of a game as he completed 15 of 29 passes for 149 yards with 0 TD passes and 3 INTs.  His receivers didn’t exactly fight for the ball on his pickoffs but they were still bad passes.  McCoy also carried the ball 4 times for 30 yards (7.5 ypc) in this game.  Mohamed Massaquoi threw a 29-yard TD pass to Brian Robiskie in this game on a very nice pass play!  Peyton Hillis had a rough time as he only had 35 yards rushing on 12 carries (2.9 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 5 yards.  Mike Bell pitched in with 27 yards rushing on 7 carries (3.9 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 48 yards (24.0 avg).  WRs Chansi Stuckey (4 rec, 39 yards), Brian Robiskie (2 rec, 35 yards, TD) and Mohamed Massaquoi (2 rec, 14 yards) all pretty much had games to forget except for the TD pass and catch.  The Browns finished up with 102 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 30 passes for 178 yards as they had possession of the football for only 28:14 in this game.

DE Kenyon Coleman, OLB Matt Roth and ILB Chris Gocong led the Browns with 7 tackles apiece in this game.  But, rookie CB Joe Haden was a standout once again with 5 tackles, 1 pass defensed, 1 sack and a interception!  The Ravens finished up with 161 yards rushing on 38 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 19 passes for 97 yards.  The Browns are now 5-10 on the year.

Cincinnati Bengals 19, Cleveland Browns 17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 20 December 2010 at 1:40 pm

The Browns didn’t play any defense as the Bengals had the ball for 38:03 in this game and it did they in yesterday in Cincinnati.  Colt McCoy returned as the starting QB and he played another good game.  He completed 19 of 25 passes for 243 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs yesterday in a winning effort.  Peyton Hillis led the way on the ground for the Browns with 59 yards rushing on 14 carries (4.2 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 23 yards (11.5 avg).  TE Ben Watson (7 rec, 92 yards), WR Brian Robiskie (5 rec, 82 yards, TD) and TE Robert Royal (2 rec, 29 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Browns yesterday.  The Browns finished up with 59 yards rushing on 14 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 25 passes for 219 yards.

Safety T.J. Ward (10 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed), DT Ahtyba Rubin (10 tackles), DE Kenyon Coleman (9 tackles) and OLB Matt Roth (9 tackles) led the way for the Browns’ “D” in this game.  The Bengals rushed for 188 yards on 45 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 23 passes for 209 yards.  The Browns are now 5-9 on the season after this very disappointing loss.
