The Browns have placed 31-year old punter Dave Zastudil on the Injured Reserve List with a knee problem.  He played in 8 games for the Browns last season and he punted the ball 49 times for 2,188 yards (44.7 avg).  Zastudil pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 25 times last year and he had 5 touchbacks.  28-year old Reggie Hodges will replace Zastudil as the Browns’ starting punter in 2010.  Hodges played in 8 games for the Browns last season and he punted the ball 45 times for 1,789 yards (39.8 avg).  He pinned the opposing team inside their own 20-yard line 15 times and he had 3 touchbacks.  Hodges will be a dropoff from Zastudil but the Browns don’t appear to worried about it.

The Cleveland Browns lose Pork Chop Womack for the rest of the pre-season

The Browns will be without starting right guard Floyd “Pork Chop” Womack for the rest of the pre-season due to injury.  He played in 13 games (9 starts) for the Browns last season.  He has played in 103 games (56 starts) in his nine years in the NFL.  Womack’s injury leaves the door open for rookie third round pick Shawn Lauvao to potentially steal his starting job.

The Cleveland Browns lose D’Qwell Jackson for the next 4-8 weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Browns News, Injury Reports, General by admin on Wednesday 11 August 2010 at 7:45 pm

The Browns have lost 26-year old starting inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson for the next 4-8 weeks due to a strained right pectoral muscle in his chest.  Jackson played in 6 games for the Browns last season and he had 59 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  32-year old Eric Barton and 23-year old Kaluka Maiava will duke it out in training camp to see who replaces Jackson for the first couple of games.  Barton played in 8 games for the Browns last season and he had 58 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, he defensed 2 passes and he had 1 fumble recovery.  Barton is a Mangini favorite from their days together with the Jets so he likely has a slight edge right now.  Maiava played in 16 games as a rookie for the Browns last season and he made 45 tackles, had 2.5 sacks, he defensed 2 passes and he forced 2 fumbles.  The Browns hope Jackson heals quickly because he’s better than the alternatives.

The Cleveland Browns sign WR Bobby Engram

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Browns News, General by admin on Thursday 8 July 2010 at 5:26 pm

The Browns have signed 37-year old WR Bobby Engram.  Engram played in 5 games for the Chiefs last season and he caught 5 passes for 61 yards (12.2 avg).  He has now played in 176 games in 14 years in the NFL and he has caught 650 passes for 7,751 yards (11.9 avg) with 35 TD grabs.  This was a solid move for the Browns who don’t have much experience at WR.

The Cleveland Browns sign kicker Shaun Suisham

The Browns have signed 28-year old kicker Shaun Suisham.  Suisham played in 14 games for the Redskins & Cowboys last season in which he connected on 20 of 24 field goals (83.3%) and 25 of 26 extra points good for 85 points.  He has now played in 57 games in his NFL career and he has made 87 of 110 field goals (79.1%) and 101 of 103 extra points in his career good for 362 points.  The Browns signed Suisham to give them insurance in case incumbent Phil Dawson fails to show up for training camp.  If Dawson doesn’t show up he is a fool because Suisham is good enough to beat him out if he gets behind.  I like this signing for the Browns.

UPDATE:  (6/18/2010) - The Browns have released Suisham after Phil Dawson reported to camp.
