Derek Anderson saved the season for the Cleveland Browns
Things were not looking good for the Browns after the season opener against the Steelers (34-7) so the Browns made a drastic move as they traded Charlie Frye and inserted Derek Anderson. All Anderson did was compile a 10-5 record as a starter and he was named as a alternate in the Pro Bowl. Anderson played in all 16 games (15 starts) for the Browns last season and he completed 298 of 527 passes (56.5%) for 3,787 yards with 29 TD passes and 19 interceptions (82.5 QB Rating). He also carried the football 32 times for 70 yards (2.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs. Anderson has now played in 21 games in his NFL career and he has completed 364 of 644 passes (56.5%) for 4,580 yards with 34 TD passes and 27 interceptions (78.9 QB Rating). He also has carried the football 36 times for 117 yards (3.3 ypc) with 3 TD runs.
Rookie Brady Quinn sat on the bench until the season finale when he replaced an injured Derek Anderson for one series. He drove the team down the field for a field goal but it should have been a TD as both Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow each dropped passes that hit them in the hands. Quinn completed 3 of 8 passes (37.5%) for 45 yards (56.8 QB Rating).
Charlie Frye made a brief appearance for the Browns before they shipped him off to Seattle where he didn’t play at all. Frye played in 1 game for the Browns this season and he was 4 for 10 (40%) for 34 yards with 1 interception (10.0 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 1 time for 1 yard. Frye played in 21 games for the Browns in his NFL career and he completed 354 of 566 passes (62.5%) for 3,490 yards with 14 TD passes and 23 interceptions (71.2 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 66 times for 276 yards (4.2 ypc) with 4 TD runs.
