Romeo Crennel wants more cash from the Cleveland Browns

Romeo’s Crennel’s agent wants to add more years and cash to his contract but the Browns should be a little bit leery.  Sure, the Browns were 10-6 last season but they didn’t make the playoffs and they played against a very, very weak schedule.  Crennel still has two years on his contract so I would want to see him have another good season before I backed up a Brinks Truck to his garage door.  Crennel has now been head coach of the Browns for three seasons and he has compiled a 20-28 (.417 %) record.

Derek Anderson saved the season for the Cleveland Browns

Things were not looking good for the Browns after the season opener against the Steelers (34-7) so the Browns made a drastic move as they traded Charlie Frye and inserted Derek Anderson.  All Anderson did was compile a 10-5 record as a starter and he was named as a alternate in the Pro Bowl.  Anderson played in all 16 games (15 starts) for the Browns last season and he completed 298 of 527 passes (56.5%) for 3,787 yards with 29 TD passes and 19 interceptions (82.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 32 times for 70 yards (2.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  Anderson has now played in 21 games in his NFL career and he has completed 364 of 644 passes (56.5%) for 4,580 yards with 34 TD passes and 27 interceptions (78.9 QB Rating).  He also has carried the football 36 times for 117 yards (3.3 ypc) with 3 TD runs.

Rookie Brady Quinn sat on the bench until the season finale when he replaced an injured Derek Anderson for one series.  He drove the team down the field for a field goal but it should have been a TD as both Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow each dropped passes that hit them in the hands.  Quinn completed 3 of 8 passes (37.5%) for 45 yards (56.8 QB Rating).

Charlie Frye made a brief appearance for the Browns before they shipped him off to Seattle where he didn’t play at all.  Frye played in 1 game for the Browns this season and he was 4 for 10 (40%) for 34 yards with 1 interception (10.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 1 time for 1 yard.  Frye played in 21 games for the Browns in his NFL career and he completed 354 of 566 passes (62.5%) for 3,490 yards with 14 TD passes and 23 interceptions (71.2 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 66 times for 276 yards (4.2 ypc) with 4 TD runs.

The Cleveland Browns finished their season strong against the 49ers with a strong win on Sunday.  Josh Cribbs had another incredible game as he returned 2 kickoffs for 57 yards (28.5 avg) and he also returned 4 punts for 135 yards (33.8 avg) including a 76-yarder for a TD.  Derek Anderson completed 11 of 20 passes for 152 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Anderson got injured right before the half and Brady Quinn made his NFL debut.  Quinn led the Browns to a field goal right before the half as he completed 3 of 8 passes for 45 yards.  But, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow each dropped a pass in the end zone that hit them right in the hands.  Jamal Lewis finished the season strong with 128 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.9 ypc).  Jerome Harrison also got some work in late in the game as he carried the ball 8 times for 32 yards (4.0 ypc) to help the Browns run out the clock.  Braylon Edwards (3 rec, 67 yards, TD) and Kellen Winslow (4 rec, 62 yards) led the way in the passing attack for the Browns.  The Browns finished up with 163 yards rushing on 36 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 28 passes for 195 yards.

Linebackers D’Qwell Jackson (9 tackles, sack), Willie McGinest (5 tackles, 2 sacks) and Leon Williams (3 tackles, 2 sacks) were all over the place for the Browns on defense.  The 49ers finished up with 112 yards rushing on 24 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 22 passes for 73 yards.
