The Browns win the coin flip with the Buccaneers

The Browns won the coin flip with the Buccaneers at the NFL Combine and will draft #3 in the NFL Draft in April.  Running back Adrian Peterson or OT Joe Thomas will be there for the Browns and that will be a good start into injecting some life into the awful offense the Browns have.  I tend to think the Browns should draft Peterson and then draft all offensive and defensive linemen with the rest of their draft picks.

Kellen Winslow has more knee surgery

Winslow had another surgery to his knee and won’t be ready to practice until at least July for the Browns.  It’s beginning to look like he will never be close to 100% healthy in his career.  But 90% of Winslow is still pretty darn good.  It does seem likely that Winslow will not have a long career for the Browns.

LeCharles Bentley to miss the 2007 season

Bentley will have to have additional surgery to his torn up knee.  It’s possible that he will never play a down for the Browns which is sad because he grew up a Browns fan.  It also sucks because the Browns gave up Pro Bowler Jeff Faine on draft day because they had signed Bentley.

The Browns offense focused on the tight ends

The Browns threw often to their tight ends and they were highly productive.  The Browns TEs caught 127 passes for 1,138 yards with 6 TD catches between them.  Kellen Winslow had a fantastic season for the Browns despite usually not practicing all week because of a bad knee.  Winslow played in all 16 games (16 starts) and he caught 89 passes for 875 yards (9.8 avg) with 3 TD catches.  For his career, Winslow has played in 18 games (18 starts) and he has caught 94 passes for 925 yards (9.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs.

Steve Heiden also had a real solid season.  He’s got great hands and he’s tough….but he’s not going to beat many players in a foot race.  He played in all 16 games (6 starts) and he caught 36 passes for 249 yards (6.9 avg) with 2 TD catches.  For his career, Heiden has played in 111 games (60 starts) and he has caught 156 passes for 1,263 yards (8.1 avg) with 13 TD grabs.

Darnell Dinkins did most of his work on special teams.  He played in 14 games (2 starts) and caught 2 passes for 14 yards (7.0 avg) and caught 1 TD pass.  For his career, Dinkins has played in 49 games (10 starts) and has caught 19 passes for 179 yards (9.4 avg) with 2 TD grabs.
