Browns must learn to win in the division

The Browns finished 0-6 in the division and it marked the first time in the history of the franchise that they lost every division game.  The Browns are a solid 4-4 outside of the division, but they will never be factor in the division until they start beating the teams in it.  The Bengals and Steelers are set with good young QBs and the Ravens have that “killer” defense, so it could be hard to make headway in the division.  Also, I’m not sold on Romeo Crennel as a head coach.  He’s now a pathetic 1-11 in the division over his tenure as head coach.  Maybe a change is in order.

I know it’s frustrating, but I want to give them one or two more years. We have always ripped everything up and started over all the time - I dont want to do that again. Romeo is a winner. He has been in the league for 27 years, he has been surrounded by winners his whole career - give him more time…but I hear ya - it is pathetic.

I don’t think any of us would be surprised if the Browns beat the Bucs and Texans and finish at 6-10 - again.

But what would be interesting, is that the Browns would finish 6-4 out of the division if that happens - that’s got to be a plus, doesnt it?

If Jim Tressel is wins another National Championship and wants to come to the Browns, which is his dream job…you kick Crennel to the curb and give him some big money. I would love to see him become the next Paul Brown.

I’m sick of waiting around for a coach to do well. Look at Eric Mangini and Sean Payton….those two teams sucked last season and now they are both rocking, so I don’t buy the whole give them time arguement.

The Browns gave Butch Davis and Bill Belichick each alot of time and neither of them did anything here. I have season tickets in the Dawg Pound and even the black people that sit there want Romeo gone. I think he’s over his head as a head coach. Don’t you find it strange that he has never been a head coach considering his age? I do.

yeah thats a good point it is strange that he has never been a head coach.

Plus, Butch Davis left this team in such bad shape, I highly doubt that if we had Sean Payton and Eric Mangini as head coach that things would be any different. I just honestly dont think the problem is Crennel. The Browns, compared to the Jets and Saints were in MUCH worse shape. Give us Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister and I’m confident things would be different.

I’m also willing to bet that if Derek Anderson was quarterback for the whole year that we beat New Orleans, and Baltimore (at home), and Pittsburgh (at home), and San Diego. Then things would be completely different.

I just dont want to gut the whole thing again and start over with a new guy and a new scheme. It will just be another step backwards - not forwards.

Remember though - we ran Belicheck out of town and look what he has done when given time…

Also look at coaches like Mike Holmgren - it took him years to get the Packers on track, but he did….then it took him years to get the Seahawks on track, but he did there too….

It took Dick Vermeil three years to get the Rams on track….but he did….

It took Belicheck three years to get the Patriots on track, but he did….

I think right now its more important to have consistency for ONCE…and not rip it all up and start over…all that does it creates more excuses for the next guy.

Lets just try being patient with this one…its going to turn around. It sucks yes, but it will get better if we allow consistency to settle in.

If after another year or two this crap is still going on? Then feel free to kick me out of town along with Romeo…hahahhaha.

The Belichick thing doesn’t wash. He was let go by Baltimore as soon as the Browns went to Baltimore. So that situation is a little different.

While it’s true that the Saints had Deuce McAllister, Drew Brees was added as a free-agent. The Browns could have easily signed him with their salary cap in the condition it was in prior to the season. And the Saints did a great job in the draft securing Reggie Bush AND Marques Colston. The Browns haven’t had a draft like that in a LONG time.

As far as the Jets go…they were expected to be the worst team in the NFL, and Mangini turned them around in one season.

I just think that some coaches are cut out to be head coaches and some are cut out to be co-ordinators. I think Romeo is cut out to be an assistant coach, but not the guy calling the shots.

well said….theres not much I can argue with there.

The only thing I would say is that we didn’t know Frye would struggle this much. If we had signed Brees in the summer, I think many of us would have questioned the move at the time, wondering why we spent all that money on a QB when….1) We already had Frye, and 2) We need a lot of help elsewhere…

Also, we can’t give the Saints TOO much credit with Marques Colston because he was a 7th round pick….so they passed him up six other times - just like the rest of the league. I will give them credit for being lucky, more then being smart with that pick.

But…in the end, I’d rather be lucky then good.
