Gary Baxter injured….again

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 19 September 2006 at 11:21 am

This is sounding like a broken record.  Baxter injured his pectoral muscle again Sunday and may sit out this week’s game with the Ravens.  You would think he would be a tough guy this week and try to stick it to his old team.

Romeo Crennel needs to get memo

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 September 2006 at 12:14 pm

The Browns front office should make sure that they send a memo to let coach Crennel know when game-time is because his team never looks prepared in the first half.  In the first half of the Browns first two games they have been outscored 26-3!  The coach usually makes adjustments at halftime, but often it’s too late.  Offensive co-ordinator Maurice Carthon must go!  He belongs calling plays on Friday nights in high-school games, and maybe even that level is too high for him.

Browns blasted by Bengals 34-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 September 2006 at 11:59 am

The Browns were totally dominated by the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.  Charlie Frye was making bad throws all day long, completing 20 of 33 passes (60.6%) for 244 yards and 2 pick-offs, he also carried the ball 4 times for 10 yards and a TD.  Reuben Droughns had another tough game carrying the ball 14 times for 32 yards (2.3 ypc) and a TD, he also caught 3 passes for 30 yards.  WR Braylon Edwards had good numbers, catching 4 passes for 110 yards (27.5 avg), but numerous passes bounced off his brick hands.  TE Kellen Winslow caught 4 passes for 42 yards.

The Browns defense was downright horrible.  The Bengals ran the ball 32 times for 160 (5.0 ypc).  The Bengals shredded the Browns secondary for 321 net yards passing and completed 60% of their throws.  S Sean Jones had 14 tackles, Gary Baxter had 10 tackles, and Andra Davis had 5 tackles and an interception.

This was never a close game, and the schedule gives the Browns no breaks as the Ravens are on deck next week!

Daylon McCutcheon doubtful

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 2:00 am

McCutcheon still hasn’t recovered from his August knee surgery.  It could hurt the Browns this week, because the Bengals are deep at receiver.

Jurevicius’ ribs not broken

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Wednesday 13 September 2006 at 4:34 pm

Jurevicius has alot of damage in the rib area, but their are no breaks as first reported.  Jurevicius is definately out this week, but he could return sooner that originally expected.

Browns vs. Bengals

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 13 September 2006 at 9:08 am

The Browns always play the Bengals tough.  The Browns will try to establish the run against the Bengals suspect run defense with Reuben Droughns.  The Browns will also use the short passing game with Kellen Winslow and try to keep the ball away from the Bengals offense.

Offensively the Bengals will probably have the same gameplan they used against the Chiefs.  The Browns defense had a rough time with the Saints running game, so expect a heavy dose of Rudi Johnson this week.  As soon as the Bengals establish the run, look for a few deep shots to Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh and Chris Henry.

The Browns always cover the point spread against the Bengals, so expect the Bengals to win a close game.

WR Joe Jurevicius out 4 to 6 weeks

Blogged under Big Browns News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 12 September 2006 at 4:43 pm

Joe Jurevicius broke his ribs on Sunday and will be out 4-6 weeks.  The Browns are lucky that they held on to Dennis Northcutt, who will now start opposite Braylon Edwards.

Browns look pathetic in 19-14 loss to Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 10 September 2006 at 10:04 pm

The Browns offense made the Saints look like the Steel Curtain.  The Saints were thought to have a lousy defense, but they sure didn’t play like it on Sunday.  Charlie Frye didn’t play very well.  Frye completed 16 of 27 passes (59.3%) for 132 yards with 1 TD and 2 interceptions.  The second INT came on the Browns last possession and Frye hit Braylon Edwards right in his brick hands and the ball popped right to a defender.  Frye was the Browns leading rusher, carrying the ball 6 times for 44 yards (7.3 avg).  Reuben Droughns must have forgot there was a game today as he only rushed for 27 yards on 11 carries (2.5 ypc).  The lone shining light on the offense was the return of TE Kellen Winslow.  Winslow caught 8 passes for 63 yards (7.9 avg) and a TD.

The Browns offense couldn’t get anything going and it left the defense on the field too long.  The Saints carried the ball 38 times for 150 yards (3.8 ypc).  The Saints completed 54.8% of their passes for 176 net yards thru the air.  Linebacker Andra Davis had 11 tackles and rookie linebacker D’Qwell Jackson had 10 tackles.  Safety Sean Jones intercepted a Drew Brees pass.

The Browns looked pitiful today and they have nowhere to go but up.

Browns cut William Green loose

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Saturday 9 September 2006 at 6:16 pm

The Browns have reached an injury settlement with William Green and then let him walk.  Under NFL rules, the Browns can’t re-sign him for 6 weeks.  Green had talent, but his off the field issues were too much to deal with for the Browns.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Green hooks on with another team like Lee Suggs has.

Browns vs. Saints

Click here to see if the Browns are favored

The Browns are loaded at the skill positions on the offense.  On offense, Charlie Frye is the only question mark.  The Browns will be able to run at will against the Saints defense.  Two of their starting linebackers were acquired for late picks in next year’s draft (Mark Simoneau and Scott Shanle).  Reuben Droughns will easily get 100 yards rushing against this soft defense.  Look for alot of play-action passes to wide-outs Braylon Edwards and Joe Jurevicius.  TEs Kellen Winslow and Steve Heiden will work the middle of the field.  The Browns secret weapon will be Jerome Harrison catching passes out of the backfield.

The Saints could be about to run outside against the Browns with McAllister and Bush.  OLB Willie McGinest is getting up there in age and Matt Stewart is a little on the slow side.  All of this changes if the Browns play Kamerion Wimbley alot in the opener, as he is almost as fast as Reggie Bush.  The Browns have a soft spot, and it’s at safety where Brodney Pool and Sean Jones will start.  Both are young and can be tricked, which is something that Drew Brees is a master at.  Brees arm strength is questionable for long passes though.

I look for the Browns to win this game simply because they’re the better team.
