Could Charlie Frye be hurting?

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 29 September 2006 at 8:08 pm

The Browns had Mike McMahon, Dave Ragone and Shaun King in for workouts this week.  Could Charlie Frye be hurting from the pounding he’s been taking or are the Browns just not very confident in their back-up QBs.  Only time will tell on this one.

Browns injury news

CB Fred Baxter is not going to play again against the Raiders, he’s still having pectoral muscle problems.  The good news is that starting WR Joe Jurevicius returned to practice on Friday and might play some on Sunday.  Juervicius would give the Browns another weapon against the sorry Raiders defense.

Browns vs. Raiders

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 29 September 2006 at 10:34 am

These two teams really need a victory badly.

Look for the Browns to attempt to run the football on the Raiders.  The Raiders defense is allowing 166.0 yards rushing per game.  Reuben Droughns needs to get it going this year as he only has 59 yards rushing so far this season.  QB Charlie Frye should be able to relax in the pocket as the Raiders only have 2 sacks this season.  Look for Frye to attack short with Kellen Winslow (19 rec, 197 yards) and deep with Braylon Edwards (11 rec, 249 yards).

The Browns defense has been vulnerable to the run with teams averaging 134.0 yards rushing against them.  RB Lamont Jordan (29 carries, 55 yards) needs to have a good game to slow the Browns pass rush.  The Raiders have already allowed 15 sacks in 2 games this season.  Look for the Browns to blitz Andrew Walter (19.0 QB Rating) and take their chances with WR Randy Moss (6 rec, 79 yards).

The Browns should win this game by at least 10 points because they aren’t quitters like the Raiders are.

Reuben Droughns says he will play against Raiders

Funny how quickly a shoulder can heal when the Browns are ready to face a Raiders defense that is allowing 166.0 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry.  This is making me question how tough Droughns is.  Did he just not want to play against the Ravens?

Browns out-coached again lose 15-14

It’s hard for the Browns players to overcome the terrible coaching that goes on every Sunday.  The Browns had a 14-3 lead in this game at half-time!  Billick made adjustments……Crennel and Carthon did not!  Charlie Frye had a good football game.  Frye completed 21 of 33 passes for 298 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  Frye also ran the ball 2 times for 6 yards and a TD.  RB Jason Wright couldn’t find much running room against the Ravens carrying the ball 15 times for 31 yards.  WR Braylon Edwards had 5 catches for 116 yards and a TD.  TE Kellen Winslow caught 7 passes for 92 yards.

The Browns played good defense against the run, holding the Ravens to 86 yards rushing and only 3.2 yards per carry.  The Ravens completed 56.1% of their passes for 254 net yards thru the air.

Browns vs. Ravens

These two teams are going in different directions.  The Browns will have to play a mistake-free game or this one will get ugly quick!

The Ravens will look to win this game on the ground.  The Browns are allowing 158 yards rushing per game!  RB  Jamal Lewis is running hard again (148 yards rushing) and that is bad news for the Browns.  After the Ravens establish their running game, McNair will attack the Browns CBs with WRs Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton.  The Browns safeties have played pretty well and match-up favorably with TE Todd Heap.

The Ravens defense has been devastating so far.  The Ravens are only allowing 32.5 yards rushing per game and 1.7 yards per carry.  The pass defense is holding opponents to a 21.2 QB rating with 6 interceptions and 9 sacks!  The Browns will have to use a short passing game to negate the Ravens pass rush.  That will be easier said than done because the Browns’ wideouts lack the courage to go over the middle.  This makes TEs Kellen Winslow and Steve Heiden the main targets in the passing game.  The Browns need to get a running game going this week or QB Charlie Frye might not make it to the end of the game.

I have no reason to believe the Browns have a chance in this game.

Browns defense hurting

CB Gary Baxter (pectoral) and Orpheus Roye (shoulder) are both listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Ravens.  This game could get ugly fast.

CB Daylon McCutcheon done for season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 19 September 2006 at 8:43 pm

Daylon McCutcheon was placed on injured reserve today ending his season.  He was slow to recover from ankle and knee surgeries.  This really hurts the Browns secondary as McCutcheon was one of their best defensive backs.
