Browns acquire DB Therrian Fontenot from the Packers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 23 August 2006 at 12:04 am

The Browns traded WR Carlton Brewster to the Packers for Therrian Fontenot.  Fontenot will get a look at cornerback with the Browns hurtin show much at that position.  Fontenot has only appeared in one game (last season) with the Packers and didn’t make a tackle.  Basically, this trade just will give both players a chance that they weren’t gonna get on the team they were with.

Browns need offense to keep improving

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 22 August 2006 at 11:49 am

The Browns looked much better on offense against the Lions than they did against the Eagles.  The team should improve once Braylon Edwards gets back on the field.  But for the pre-season the Browns have not looked very good on offense.  The running game is putting up 95.5 yards per game, with an average carry gaining 4.1 yards.  The passing game has been pretty weak so far.  The Browns are only averaging 161.0 yards passing in their two games, but a bright spot is that the young QBs are connecting on 63.0% of their passes.

The defense looks much improved due to massive upgrades in the front seven.  The Browns are holding opponents to 94.0 yards rushing per game and only 3.1 yards per carry.  That is a massive improvement over the last few years, and I hope it continues.  Nothing is more frustrating than watching an opponent just hand-off the ball and beat you.  The pass defense also has played pretty well only allowing 193.0 yards per game, especially when you consider that Daylon McCutcheon and Gary Baxter have been out.

Browns look good in 20-16 win over Lions

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Saturday 19 August 2006 at 12:43 am

A couple of this year’s draft picks really looked good on Friday Night.  D’Qwell Jackson forced a fumble and intercepted a Dan Orlovsky pass, as the Browns defense looked really good.  The Browns held the Lions to 84 yards rushing on 22 carries.  The Lions also completed only 18 of 38 passes and netted 203 yards passing against the Browns.

The quarterbacks played alot better than they did against Philadelphia in the first game.  Charlie Frye completed 8 of 11 passes for 41 yards with a TD and a pick.  The TD was a five-yarder to Dennis Northcutt.  Ken Dorsey looked a little better also completing 11 of 16 passes for 75 yards, but he threw another pick-off.  Derek Anderson looked the sharpest of the QB’s hitting 7 of 9 passes for 83 yards and a TD.  The TD was a 33 yarder to rookie James Harrison.

James Harrison put on another show Friday night.  Harrison rushed 9 times for 53 yards, and he caught 6 passes for 54 yards and a TD.  Harrison is pushing William Green for the #2 spot.  Rueben Droughns was running hard and effective rushing 7 times for 44 yards.  Lee Suggs, being showcased for a trade, rushed 8 times for 26 yards.

Kellen Winslow caught 3 passes for 37 yards.

Browns will attempt to trade Lee Suggs again

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 17 August 2006 at 2:44 pm

The Browns will try to again trade running back Lee Suggs next week.  Suggs has fallen behind William Green and James Harrison on the depth chart.  The Browns would more than likely take a center or defensive back for Suggs due to injuries that have mounted at those two positions.
