The Cavaliers couldn’t believe their luck at #25 in the first round.  They had been targeting Daniel Gibson (point guard from Texas) at number #25, he was there but the Cavs took Shannon Brown from Michigan State instead.  As soon as the Cavs made that pick, they started burning up the phones to trade up to get Daniel Gibson.  No takers were found for what the Cavs were offering, and lo and behold, Gibson was there at #42.  The Cavaliers seemed so happy that they probably wasted their third pick of the night (Ejike Uboaja) on a player that probably will stay in Africa for a year to try to hone his game before joining the NBA.

The players:

Shannon Brown, 6-4, 205   20 years old   shooting guard   Michigan State    Brown in his career at Michigan State played in 97 games and scored double figures in 61 of them, including 20+ in 13 of them.  He is known for his intensity on the court and is a very good defender.  His career averages as follows:  12.2 pts., 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.28 steals per game.  He probably will start his Cavs career as Larry Hughes back-up, and he provides excellent insurance against a Hughes injury.

Daniel Gibson, 6-2, 190   20 years old   point guard  Texas     The Cavs were ecstatic to get Gibson in the second round.  It seems as if he’ll start his Cavs career as Eric Snow’s back-up, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Gibson beat him out for the starters job.  Gibson was the Big12 freshman of the year in 2004-05, and an Honorable Mention All-American last year as a sophomore.  Gibson, like Brown, is a very good defender.

Ejike Uboaja  6-9, 225   20 years old   power-forward   Nigeria    Uboaja was a puzzling pick as he’s not thought of as a player that will be available at all for the Cavs this season.  He was a member of the Nigerian National Team.
